It was five years ago today that so many innocent lives were ended.? Among those who were killed because of this attack was Leonard M. Castrianno.
Mr. Castrianno was a sales coordinator for Cantor Fitzgerald on the 105th floor World Trade Center, and lived in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.? He was originally from Buffalo, in upstate New York, but had moved to New York City after finishing college.? Mr. Castrianno was just a few days away from becoming a broker for the firm when the attacks happened.
His family and friends saw him as the type of guy to always be there whenever you needed him.? He never hesitated to help out a friend in need, "whether it was writing a resume or purchasing a new computer".? One neighbor in particular from Buffalo suffered from muscular dystrophy, so to help him be able to live more comfortably, Mr. Castrianno would go grocery shopping with him, painted his house and would take him to get haircuts at the barber shop, among other things… all just to help a friend in need…
Friends and family also saw that Mr. Castrianno was a very hard worker, waiting tables and working in a grocery store through school, then working his way up the ladder at Cantor Fitzgerald.? He was a friendly and sincere fellow who was missed greatly, which was shown by the 700 mourners from his hometown and beyond who attended his memorial service.
Reading his story brought tears to my eyes, not just because of the tragedy that took his life, but because I can only imagine the amount of hurt that his friends and family felt, and noone should ever have to feel that… He was in the prime of his life, with still so much potential…
I also came across many internet memorials for Mr. Castrianno, where his friends, family, and even passing acquaintances posted heart-wrenching testimonials to this man’s character and life… It is truly a tragedy that Mr. Castrianno was, on that fateful day, one of the 2,996.? Wherever his spirit is, I hope he knows that he is truly missed.
